Say hello to Terry Thacker . . .
Terry Thacker is the Bluegrass DJ for WAWK The Hawk. His show has been running for 12 years and going strong. |
Terry was born and raised in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky where he learned to play Bluegrass on his fiddle. In 1984 he joined the Army and served in El Paso, Fort Bliss for 2 years and Germany Nurnburg for 3 years returning to his home town of Hindman, KY in 1989. Lack of jobs moved Terry to Kendallville where he had family.
In August 1995 he felt Northeast Indiana needed to hear Bluegrass so he talked with CEO Don Moore and was given a chance to promote his love of Bluegrass music. He was given a half hour show for starters and as the music spread his popularity grew stronger and now he has a 2-1/2 hour show on Sundays from 12 noon till 2:30 pm.
Terry has a loving family, he and his wife Stacey have been married 23 years and he has one son Kaleb who is 18. His hobbies are listening to all kinds of music, going to Bluegrass festivals and flying remote controlled Helicopters.

Say Hello to Rob Lawson . . .
I was born and raised in Kendallville and have spent almost my entire life here. I have many fond memories of growing up here. Kendallville is a great community, to live, work and raise a family. I graduated from East Noble High School In 1982.
I am the proud parent of two fantastic kids, my son Alex, a freshman at EN and my daughter Ariel, a 7th grader at KMS.
I rejoined "The HAWK" this last August. This is my second stint at WAWK AM 1140, I actually started way back in May of 1992, working for Don. I was on every evening from, 6pm to sign off, during the summer and on the weekends from noon to 6pm. I also dabbled in sales for a short time. I stayed on till the fall of 1993.
My very first live remote, was on Sylvan lake on the 4th of July 1992. Don put me on a pontoon boat, with all kinds of freebies to give away. We had this huge generator and sound system on it. I could talk to everybody on the whole lake at one time, I think. It was loud!! Plus we were, broadcasting music from the station over it as well. It was a gorgeous, hot, not a cloud in the sky, Indiana summer day, of about 90 degrees. I was out for 7 hours!! Can you say LOBSTER!!!! Wow, was I FRIED!!!.........But I will never forget it. I had a Blast, the first of many good times, that I had at WAWK. Don, Mike, Stevie, Scott and Dan, were all here then, so it is just like being with family, once again. Don still calls me by the same nickname, I'm not sure, maybe he just calls everybody that!
